Maternity Hospital Bag Checklist, what to carry.

Packing your maternity hospital bag is an important part of getting ready for your baby's arrival. After a long awaited wait, the time welcomes the little one. You have all the decorations done and the nursery ready for him or her. But, hey! Prepare your hospital bag with all the items to keep handy by packing all the essentials in an organized way, you can make your hospital stay more comfortable and less stressful. This checklist will guide you through the essential items to pack.

When to pack You Hospital Bag:

We recommend it to pack all the essential items for your hospital stay between 35 and 38 weeks of pregnancy, as delivery can happen. This will help to avoid any last-minute stress or scrambling.

Items To Pack In Your Hospital Bag Before Delivery:

  1. All Photo IDs and forms, insurance info, all reports and hospital documents
  2. Carry your phone, charger and a portable power bank
  3. Go for 2-3 pairs of warm, snuggly ankle length socks which is useful for pre and post delivery. These will keep you very comfy for pacing about in the hallways of the hospital.
  4. A nice shawl and robe to keep you tucked up in bed and also warm as usually the skin is sensitive during the time.
  5. Some subtle lip balm to dab on the lips as hospitals are parched places, preferably vaseline petroleum jelly
  6. Few pairs of headbands and pony tails to tie up the hair.
  7. Couple of unsweetened lozenges or candy to keep your mouth moist during labour
  8. Non perishable light snacks to munch on like oatmeal cookies or few nut bars to keep you going
  9. Basic Toiletries like toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brushes, hair combs, towels, etc
  10. Loose fitting airy clothing and sleepwear
  11. A couple of footwear like bathroom slippers and comfy flip flops. 

Items To Pack In Your Hospital Bag After Delivery:

  1. Two maternity bras which aid in lactating
  2. A night pyjama set with concealed lactating zippers and a nightie with the feeding provision for easy lactating.
  3. A cute lactating and pillow for sleeping and lactating the little one.
  4. Heavy duty maternity pads as excessive bleeding can happen after childbirth.
  5. Some nutritive yummy snacks which will give you the strength after delivery.

Items to Pack in Bag for Your Partner

  • Your partner is just as important as you during this time, and they will felt just as stressed and nervous. It is important to pack for their needs and your own.
  • Pack their favorite snacks to help them stay calm and energized. Don't forget to pack their toiletries and clothes as well.
  • A small pillow can also be helpful for your partner to rest their back or head during labor and delivery.

Items to Pack in Bag for Your Baby:

  • Finally, your little one has arrived into the world! A cute pair of mittens and a baby cap are essential items to keep your baby warm and comfortable.
  • You can also pack bodysuits and diapers for your baby. A blanket is also helpful for wrapping your baby up and keeping them warm.

What Not To Pack In Your Hospital Bag:

  • Leave your valuables at home, such as gold and chunky jewelry.
  • Bring only a small amount of cash, as you won't need much in the hospital.
  • The hospital will provide diapers for your baby, so you don't need to pack many.
  • If you're having a C-section, avoid packing tight-fitting bottoms, as they can be uncomfortable after surgery.

Time to Throw In The Snacks:

          

  • Don't forget to pack a handful of nuts, apples, crackers, and some chocolates for a quick energy boost.
  • Consider including cereals such as oats and multigrains that are low in sugar for a nutritious snack.
  • Including dates in your snack options can be beneficial because of their high iron content.
  • If you feel you might need more fluids, consider packing a few homemade soup packets in case water is insufficient.
